Privacy Policy
Last updated 22 October 2026
In short
- Linnet needs an account. Your sagas are stored in Google’s Firebase so you can read them on any device.
- To write your sagas, what you write goes to Anthropic’s Claude. To read them aloud, the chapter’s text goes through OpenRouter to a speech model. Linnet asks for your agreement before anything is sent.
- Your email address and your Apple or Google account are not sent to these AI services.
- No advertising, no analytics, no tracking. Your data is not sold.
- You can delete your account in the App. Everything goes with it, except purchase records that tax law requires me to keep.
1. Who is responsible
The controller is Fabian Schneider, Dorf 53, 6306 Söll, Austria, hello@awake-sagas.com (“I”, “me”). This policy covers the Linnet app and this website. Austrian law and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) apply.
2. What Linnet processes
- Account: your user ID, your email address, how you sign in (Apple or Google), and the name Apple or Google passes on when you sign in. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, I only get Apple’s relay address. Also when you created the account and when you last used it.
- Your sagas: your ideas and any genre or character details, your edits to a pitch, your notes and requests, your settings for each saga (such as perspective and intimacy), your choices and written answers, and everything written for you: pitches (including ones you didn’t start), prologues, chapters, the saga’s working notes on its world and characters, and narration audio.
- Settings: your narration voice, speed and style note.
- Consent records: that you agreed to the AI processing notice, with the date and the notice version, stored in your account record. Accounts that confirmed being 18 or older for a setting earlier test versions offered keep that date in the same place.
- Purchases: what Apple reports about your purchases: product, transaction IDs, purchase and expiry dates, renewal and refund status, and an account token that ties purchases to your Linnet account. Also which books you have unlocked, unused credits, your free chapters and how much of this month’s membership allowance you have used. I receive no payment details and nothing else about your Apple Account.
- Usage and cost records: for each writing or narration step, the model used, the amount of text or audio, its estimated cost, and which saga and chapter it was for, linked to your user ID.
- Technical logs: the server’s request and error logs, which can contain your user ID.
Linnet does not use your location, contacts, photos, microphone or advertising identifier. It contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may give me anonymous crash reports and performance figures. You can switch this off there at any time.
3. Why, and on what legal basis
- To provide Linnet, which means your account, writing, storing and narrating your sagas, your purchases and your allowances: performance of our contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Sending what you write to the AI services in section 4 is the core of this; Linnet cannot write without it.
- Your agreement first: before your first pitch, Linnet shows you what goes to which AI service and sends nothing until you agree. Your agreement is recorded with your account. You can read the notice again in the App under Settings → How Linnet uses AI.
- To keep Linnet secure, working and affordable, which covers daily limits, cost records, logs and preventing misuse: my legitimate interest in running a reliable service within its budget (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- To keep purchase records as Austrian tax law requires: legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
- To answer your emails: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where it concerns your account, otherwise my legitimate interest in replying (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Sagas are fiction, and you decide what you write into them. Please don’t enter sensitive information about yourself, such as health details, or personal information about other real people. If you do, it is processed like the rest of the saga, to write it.
I don’t read your sagas. As the operator I can technically access the database, and I would look at a saga only to fix a problem you report to me, or to investigate serious misuse. I don’t use your sagas for anything else: not for advertising, and not to train AI models.
4. Who receives your data
These providers process data on my behalf, each only for its part of the service:
- Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage): runs Linnet’s server, signs you in, and stores your account, sagas, narration audio, purchases and records. Linnet’s server functions run in the United States.
- Anthropic (Claude): writes the pitch, the prologue and every chapter, and the saga’s working notes. It receives your idea, character and genre details, your edits, notes, intimacy settings, choices and written answers, together with the story so far.
- OpenRouter: passes a chapter’s text to a speech model when you listen and returns the audio. Which speech model depends on the saga’s language: currently OpenAI’s GPT Audio Mini for German and Kokoro, an openly published model run by one of OpenRouter’s providers, for the other languages. I can change these models; whichever is used receives the same. They receive the chapter’s text, the voice and speed you chose, and your narration style note.
The AI services receive the story’s text only: no email address, no name, no user ID and nothing from your Apple or Google account.
Separately, these receive data as independent controllers under their own privacy policies:
- Apple, when you sign in with Apple and for every App Store purchase. Apple sells the purchases and handles payment, renewals and refunds, and tells Linnet’s server about them.
- Google, when you sign in with Google.
Some of these providers process data in the United States or other countries outside the EU. Such transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified under it, and otherwise on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
5. How long it is kept
- Your account and sagas are kept for as long as your account exists. Deleting a saga deletes it with its chapters and narration.
- Deleting your account (Settings → Delete account in the App) deletes your sign-in, every saga, chapter, pitch and narration, your settings, consent records, unlocked books and credits.
- Kept after deletion: purchase and cost records, for seven years, because Austrian tax law (§ 132 BAO) requires business records to be kept. They hold your former user ID, amounts and App Store transaction IDs, but no name or email address. Apple keeps its own records of your purchases.
- Technical logs are deleted automatically after a limited period.
- The AI services keep what they receive only as long as their terms allow, for example for a limited time to detect abuse.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, to data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on your agreement, you can withdraw it at any time; this doesn’t affect what was done before. You can delete sagas and your whole account yourself in the App. For anything else, write to hello@awake-sagas.com.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In Austria that is the Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb.gv.at.
7. Adults only
Linnet is for people aged 18 and over and is not directed at children. If I learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, I delete it.
8. Email
If you write to me, I use your email address and what you send only to answer you, and delete it when it is no longer needed, unless the law requires me to keep it. Email for awake-sagas.com is hosted by Google Workspace.
9. This website
www.awake-sagas.com is hosted by Vercel. To deliver the pages and keep them secure, Vercel processes your IP address and the technical details of each request and keeps them in logs for a limited time. The website sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, uses no analytics and loads nothing from other services. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
10. Changes
When Linnet changes, this policy changes with it. The current version is always on this page, with its date. If a change affects what is sent to an AI service, the App asks for your agreement again.
